Mental Health Q & A

What kinds of mental health problems can affect me?

There are many different kinds of mental health problems, some of which can be seriously debilitating. Two of the most widespread forms of mental health problems include:

Depression

Depression is a condition that causes a constant low mood, sadness, and feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and hopelessness. It’s not the same as feeling blue now and again, which is perfectly natural. Depression sucks the life and joy out of every waking moment for weeks, months, and often years, and when it’s very severe, puts suffers at increased risk of suicide.

Anxiety

Generalized anxiety disorder is a condition where the normal feelings of anxiousness or worry you experience before a big occasion or an important event start to take over, making you feel anxious all the time. The anxiety can become crippling, and may cause panic attacks when you face a situation that triggers an overreaction in your fight or flight response.

Can children develop mental health problems?

Mental health issues of all kinds can affect anyone, young or old, rich or poor, of any ethnic origin. Children can suffer from depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and other forms of mental distress just the same as adults.

ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a developmental disorder that can make children overexcitable and difficult to control. Children with ADHD typically have problems coping with day to day activities, causing frustration and acting out.

There are also many adults who don’t receive a diagnosis of ADHD until they’re older, and although symptoms of ADHD may change over time, they don’t go away.

How are mental health problems treated?

The team members are compassionate and care deeply about every aspect of your health. If you’re affected by a mental health condition, there are many effective forms of antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication available to help improve your mood, reduce anxiety, and rebalance any neurotransmitters in your brain that may be causing your symptoms.

If your condition requires specialist treatment, your medical team will discuss this with you and refer you to the appropriate mental health service.

Starting treatment early if you have a mental health condition makes it easier to recover, and reduces the distress you are experiencing.

If you have any symptoms of mental distress, or don’t feel like yourself and can’t shake it off, talk to the caring team at Evergreen Medical Clinic. Call them today or book an appointment online.
